The Applications Engineer is responsible for product selection and design as well as technical support to meet the needs of Cook Compression's customers.


  • Communicate with sales and customers to understand product applications and the customers' needs, and to collect and organize the data needed to propose solutions.
  • Utilize engineering knowledge and judgment and the Cook Engineering Standards to determine appropriate solutions to applications. This includes material and product type selection, sizing, and design configuration.
  • Use software tools and engineering programs to prepare the engineered solution for quoting, fully document all design details, and assist sales in communicating the design to the customer as needed.
  • Review and approve final designs before manufacture.
  • Use experience and product knowledge to provide product support to the field.
  • Examine failed parts, determine root cause of failures and implement or recommend changes to correct them.
  • Work with customers, sales and service centers to troubleshoot field problems.
  • Work with Product Engineering group and other Cook locations to ensure design consistency and standardization of products.
  • Work with QA and production to ensure that products meet factory specifications and design intent.
  • Improve department efficiency by supporting cross-training and resource-shifting activities.
  • Actively pursue procedural improvements to reduce drafting / designing cycle times.

 Education and Experience:

  •  Minimum bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required
  • Entry level or 0 5 years' experience in mechanical design and/or oil & gas industry
  • Basic understanding of reciprocating compressors and the function of major components preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools as needed to create spreadsheets, Engineering Standards and other documents
