General Description and Scope of Work

The Lead Programmer reports to the Mfg Center Supervisor. The Programmer will be responsible for following Cook Compression's manufacturing and repair procedures. This position will also be responsible for maintaining the high level of quality that our customers require and have come to expect.

The Lead Programmer will evaluate current programming methodologies, software, procedures, employees and their skill level, productivity, efficiency and deficiencies. This person will make recommendations for change as needed, provide training and leadership and be responsible for the other programmers, skill levels, efficiencies and productivity. This person will assist the Manufacturing Supervisor to improve lead times and on time deliveries for scheduled production and "Hot Jobs".

General Requirements

The Lead Programmer job should be:

  • Proficient in Mazak interface (Mazatrol)
    • Programs using the interface to program Lathe, Mill and Multi-Axis Machines
    • Proficient with M Codes and G Codes
  • Proficient in Okuma interface (ADMAC (**plus**) , IBF)
    • Programs using the interface to program Lathe, Mill and Multi-Axis Machines
  • Proficient in Conversational programming experience and G Codes
  • Proficient in Master cam or other Cad/Cam programs
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • Proficient in reading and using Micrometers
  • Proficient in programming to drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of tooling in reference to speeds, feeds and capabilities.
  • Have prior experience as a CNC machine operator.


  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely
  • Must be able to operate machinery, train as required
  • Read Micrometers and Prints
